Patna, Aug 4 : Bihar Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah, who is probing Friday's police firing on flood victims in Madhubani District, on Saturday said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has met all demands of the victims, including ordering the suspension of policeman responsible for it.
Amanullah and CID Additional Director General Yashwant Malhotra termed the firing as "unwarranted" and recommended the suspension of Havildar Aditya Narayan Singh, the main perpetrator of the incident.
Amanullah said that the Chief Minister had granted all three demands made by the family of the victim, Darshan Thakur.
Thakur, a medical representative, was killed when police fired several rounds at the protesting villagers in Madhubani town.
Besides the suspension of Singh, the Thakur family had demanded the filing of a criminal case against Singh and adequate compensation.
Amanullah said a criminal case is being instituted against Singh, and announced a compensation of rupees one lakh for a person who dies because of flood.
Police reportedly fired after being attacked by a mob that resisted their bid to dig up land beneath a railway track to drain out flood water near Chakda village on the outskirts of Madhubani town. In this firing, Thakur was killed and three were critically wounded.
Twelve policemen were injured in the attack.
