Kashmiris protest doctors negligence after pregnant woman dies

Sores of people took to the streets here on Friday to express their angst over alleged negligence of doctors resulting in untimely death of a pregnant woman.

Srinagar, Aug 31 : Sores of people took to the streets here on Friday to express their angst over alleged negligence of doctors resulting in untimely death of a pregnant woman.

An angry mob stormed into a local hospital smashing windows and breaking furniture, to register their protest against the doctors.

The victim's brother Sajad Ahmed blamed the doctors for negligence, leading to his sister's death.

The pregnant woman was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night for a regular delivery of her child, but died early on Friday morning following heavy loss of blood.

"We had to force them to give us a car and give us some attendants. Otherwise, we would have had to hire another car. Later on, there was traffic jam and we reached very late. This happened because the doctors on duty are always drunk," said Ahmed.

A few doctors were also beaten up by the mob when they showed up for work. Security was reinforced in the hospital to calm down the irate mob.

The protestors have demanded the hospital authorities sack the doctors responsible for the incident.
