Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today condoled the death of former Haryana Chief Minister Banarsi Das Gupta.
New Delhi, Aug 30 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today condoled the death of former Haryana Chief Minister Banarsi Das Gupta.
In a condolence message, Singh said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Shri Banarsi Das Gupta. In his passing away, we have lost a senior colleague in the Indian National Congress. He was widely loved and respected, particularly in Haryana, of which he was the Chief Minister for several years."
"He was an active participant in the Bhoodan Andolan and fought against social evils like dowry system and child marriage.
"May providence give his family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. I pray for the peace of the departed soul," Singh added.
