New Delhi, Aug 30 : Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath will inaugurate the TEX Summit with the theme "Exploring Growth Paradigms" here tomorrow.
The conference will deliberate on areas of concern for the textile sector to further boost productivity and export, and to realise the potential of the sector in generating employment.
To address these issues in a cohesive manner, four working groups covering textile inputs - physical framework, human resource development, policy framework and role of government and market development, have been constituted.
The working groups will consist of leading members of trade and industry, economists, academicians, experts, financial analysts who will deliberate the various issues arising in these areas and suggest the policy framework as roadmap for the further growth of the sector.
The deliberations of all four Working Groups and their recommendations would be summarized and announced before the summit moves for its valedictory session.
The valedictory session will be addressed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on September 1.
Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela, Minister of State for Labour and Employment (I/C) Oscar Fernandes and, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, C. Rangarajan, will also address the inaugural session.
The Ministry of Textiles is organizing the two day summit.
It may be recalled that the industry's competitiveness had suffered in recent months on account of the steep appreciation of the rupee and other factors, such as high transaction cost, power cost, technological obsolescence and local levies.
The recent steps taken to address the impact of the rising rupee on exports like revision of the duty draw back and DEPB rates for exporters would provide some relief to them.
With these measures the Government was confident that exporters would be able to realise the targets of 25.2 billion dollar set for this sector for the year 2007-08.
