New Army Vice Chief, Commanders of Southern and Western Command announced

Lieutenant General M L Naidu was today named as next Vice Chief of Army Staff, along with the appointments of new commanders for the Southern and the Western Command.

New Delhi, Aug 30 : Lieutenant General M L Naidu was today named as next Vice Chief of Army Staff, along with the appointments of new commanders for the Southern and the Western Command.

Recipient of Ati Vishist Seva Medal, Lt Gen Naidu will take over from Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor, who is to be the next Army Chief from October 1.

Presently the Army Commander of Shimla based Training Command, Lt. Gen Naidu was commissioned in the Rajput Regiment in 1967, and as a Commanding Officer of 5 Rajput he participated in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka for which he was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal.

Lt Gen J K Mohanty, presently Commandant of Mhow based Army War College will become the General Officer Commanding in Chief of the Training Command.

The army commanders for Pune based Southern Command and Chandimandir based Western Command were also named today.

Lt Gen TK Sapru of the Gorkha Regiment and presently a Corps Commander in Jammu and Kashmir will be the next Western Army Commander. He takes over from Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, who is retiring on October 31

Lt Gen N Thamburaj takes over from Lt Gen Aditya Singh, who is retiring on September 30, as the next Army Commander of Southern Command.

Lt Gen Thamburaj, presently a Corps Commander in Punjab, belongs to the Corps of Engineers.
