New Delhi, Aug.3 : India has objected to the use of Bangladeshi territory by some insurgent groups like the ULFA as security related issues dominated the first day of the two-day Home Secretary level talks held here on Thursday.
Raising its security concerns, Home Ministry officials called on their Bangladeshi counterparts to crack down firmly on Indian insurgent groups operating from Bangladesh territory, and made a particular mention of the presence and activities of ULFA.
Home Ministry officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that concern was also expressed over anti-India ISI activities from Bangladeshi soil.
The two sides, led by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Abdul Karim, also discussed border management and cooperation in police matters, an Home Ministry spokesman said.
Describing the talks as "positive and constructive", he said the two sides expressed commitment to further enhance cooperation.
The two countries hoped the current round of talks would lead to further strengthening of mutual cooperation.
The eighth round of talks are part of the bilateral institutional mechanism set up in 1994 to resolve security and border management issues.
The last such talks were held in Dhaka last year.
Three working groups have been set up to go into security-related matters, border management and enhanced cooperation between the two sides.
A joint statement is likely to be issued at the end of the talks on Friday.
