New Delhi, Aug 29 : Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for establishment of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the state.
Minister of State for Human Resource Development M.A.A.Fatmi told the Rajya Sabha today that the request would be considered as and when the Centre initiates the process of setting up of new IIMs in the country.
Fatmi said this in a reply to a question raised by member Shantaram Laxman Naik in the Upper House.
There are six Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) till date in the country at Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore and Kozhikode.
Besides being India's premier business schools, IIMs also conduct research and provide consultancy services in the field of management to various sectors of the Indian economy.
