Ludhiana, Aug 26 : After making a mark in the metros, multiplexes are all set to boom in cities like Ludhiana.

Ludhiana has just got its first multiplex, and another hundred are in the pipeline.

PVR Cinemas, Inox, Fame, IMAX and many more are keeping a close watch on cash inflows in Punjab.

Ajay Bijli, Managing Director, PVR Cinemas, said: "In nine states and 14 cities, we have 89 screens. We own 23 properties and are planning to open 24 to 30 screens in the next 12 to 18 months in different cities of Punjab."

Bijli expects good business in Punjab.

"The State Government has reduced entertainment tax, and secondly, our studies show that if we provide a jovial experience to the people, Punjab will not disappoint us," said Bijli.

While PVR has planned 44 screens, Global Constructions Limited is coming up with 60 malls and multiplexes by 2010.

Ludhiana's first multiplex has come in for fulsome praise. Multiple movies, hassle-free ticket bookings and a bubbly ambience, plus other conveniences have changed movie watching experience.

"PVR is little costly, but it is clean and has good facilities," said Sindhu.

"I watch cinema, but coming to PVR is a different experience. A nice beginning, which gives a sense of the exotic. One gets refreshed visiting here," said Parvati Tyagi.

Multiplexes offer benefits like flexible show timings.

"Ticket booking facilities are excellent. One can book tickets on-line and can avoid standing in a queue. One can also inquire about ticket availability on the net," said Swati Bhatia.
