Hundreds of people joined a walk on Saturday to raise awareness about obesity and diseases.
New Delhi, Aug 25 : Hundreds of people joined a walk on Saturday to raise awareness about obesity and diseases.
The walk organised by the Diabetes Foundation (India) witnessed the participation of about 2,000 children from different schools in New Delhi.
Besides, senior citizens along and Bollywood actor Farooq Sheikh joined the walk to raise awareness about medical problems of obese.
"Children at the primary, secondary and college level are most affected. So, if the message reaches them with emphasis and regularity, then it will be effective," said Sheikh.
According to new studies, obesity in adolescence is associated with reduced heart function and excessive cardiac mass.
Obesity also leads to other ailments like diabetes, raised cholesterol, coronary heart disease and brain strokes.
A survey conducted by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) revealed that 76 per cent of women in the national capital suffer from abdominal obesity.
According to doctors, the risk of obesity is highest amongst 20 per cent of the population whose diet consists more of visible dietary fat.
