The Election Commission today served a show cause notice to Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Jamshedpur, where by-election for Lok Sabha seat is slated for August 29.
New Delhi, Aug 24 : The Election Commission today served a show cause notice to Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Jamshedpur, where by-election for Lok Sabha seat is slated for August 29.
According to EC sources, Koda has been asked to reply by 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Koda was served with the notice for using State Government hired helicopter for election work in the Lok Sabha constituency.
The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force since July 24 when the Commission announced the by-election schedule for Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and Ballia (Uttar Pradesh) parliamentary constituencies, and four assembly seats in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
The election for the Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency has been necessitated due to the death of sitting member Sunil Kumar Mahto, who was killed by Naxalites on March 4 this year.
Sunil Mahto's widow Suman Mahto is contesting the polls as the JMM candidate against the BJP's Dinesh Sarangi and the BSP's Salkhan Murmu.
