A Rajasthan court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants (NBWs) against the Director-General of Police (Fire Services and Home Guards), Cuttack. B B Mohanti and his son Bitihotra, after the latter jumped parole in connection with a rape charge.
Jaipur/Cuttack, Aug.24 : A Rajasthan court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants (NBWs) against the Director-General of Police (Fire Services and Home Guards), Cuttack. B B Mohanti and his son Bitihotra, after the latter jumped parole in connection with a rape charge.
The arrest order was delivered to the District Magistrate of Cuttack on Friday.
"I have forwarded the NBWs to the Superintendent of Police, Cuttack District, for execution," said District Magistrate Sujata Rout, who said that she had received the Rajasthan court order through a special messenger.
Mohanti has been accused of sheltering his son.
Superintendent of Police, Cuttack District, Soumendra Priyadarshi, confirmed receiving the NBWs.
Biti Mohanti was serving a seven-year imprisonment after being convicted for having raped a German tourist in Alwar. The sentence was passed by a fast track court.
The decision to issue the NBWs was taken after the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajendra Bansal on Monday rejected B B Mohanti's plea to convert his NBW into a bailable one.
The NBWs were issued under Section 225 (obstructing the lawful arrest of a person) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A case was registered against B B Mohanty for sheltering his son and concealing facts after Biti, an MBA student, jumped parole after December 4, 2006.
