President Pratibha Patil today asked the visiting students of Villa Marie Degree College for Women, Hyderabad to give back to society.
New Delhi, Aug 24 : President Pratibha Patil today asked the visiting students of Villa Marie Degree College for Women, Hyderabad to give back to society.
The students and staff of the college called on her at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Patil said the girls could engage in social service along side their careers, as they have the benefit of education.
She said it is very necessary for educated women to spread the message that educating the girl child is essential especially in rural areas and in the urban slums, so that their condition is improved.
The President observed that today educated women from urban backgrounds are making their mark in various fields, adding that it is necessary for educated women to be socially aware and help those who are not fortunate to have education.
She also emphasised that women must work hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder with men.
The students are on a visit to New Delhi to have a practical exposure to government, after learning about the theory of government in their college course. During their visit, they have so far visited the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha to see its functioning.
Earlier, the students were taken on a guided tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan, which the President has described as the People's House.
