Amirtsar, Aug.24 : Born to renowned musician and Sufi singer Puran Chand of Wadali Brothers' fame, it could be anything but easy for Lakhwinder Wadali to emulate his father's name and reputation.
Having learnt many nuances of Sufi music, while accompanying his father along with uncle Pyare Lal Wadali, Lakhwinder has today found his niche in the world of Sufi music.
Lakhwinder says: "The eminence of my father and uncle has benefited me a lot, and it has no consequence but I am little scared that people compare me with my father. They predict that whatever I sing it will be a contrast of my father." oday, Lakhwinder takes pride in the fact that he is successfully carrying forward his family's musical legacy while belonging to his family's sixth generation. He has already presented various renditions from a number of big platforms and has won many hearts.
And, Toady, he is trying to take over the responsibility from the legendry Wadali duo to popularise Sufi saints' through music and singing. He considers it a privilege.
He says: "I always say that God creates different faces and I wish to be as similar as Wadali Brothers. I can only try but never be like their copy. It's a rare case, but I pray to god that it be the rare of the rarest."
Lakhwinder wins hearts of Sufi music lovers through classical, folk and traditional renditions.
Practicing the renderings of Sufis like Baba Bulle Shah, Baba Farid, Amir Khusro or Sant Kabir and others Lakhwinder wants to establish a distinct place in the music world. He believes that his classical base will facilitate things for him.
Lakhwinder says: "When I was five-days-old my father sung a `Thumri', the music of love of legendary Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan in my ear and from that very day, perhaps, the music remain close to my soul. That day was my first exposure of the joy of music and first training in it."
For centuries, the village "Guru Ki Wadali" has been witnessing the renditions of Sufi and Classical mystics. Started by the Sikh Guru Arjan Dev the trend was carried on by the Wadali family.
With the release of `Bulla', 'Saanwal Rangiye' and `Revolver'- Lakhwinder has already set himself an audience.
Today, Lakhwinder is known to be an artist who is emerging as another great from Wadali family with a foundation of Sufi and Classical.
