Bangalore, Aug 24 : Bangalore Police on Friday seized five kilograms of heroin worth millions of rupees in the international market.
The heroin was recovered from -- Eisanullah Khan, 52, hailing from Rajasthan, and Anjani Kumar Singh, 28, from Madhya Pradesh.
The seized drugs are reportedly worth 60 million rupees in international market, police officials said.
N. Achutha Rao, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, termed the seizure as one of the biggest in the city.
The two accused have been remanded to police custody for further questioning, as the police is exploring an interstate and an international angle to the drug racket.
Narcotics agencies say India, wedged between two major drug-producing regions, the Golden Triangle (Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand) and the Golden Crescent (Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan), is a major transit point for drug smuggling to the West.
India has recently become the conduit for contraband, brought mainly from Afghanistan, for supply to other Asian countries.
According to the United Nations, Afghanistan is the world's largest producer of opium.
