Aizwal, Aug.22 : Hundreds of Mizo youngsters had a gala time recently dancing to popular music at a special party organised here to spread awareness about childrens' rights.
Organised by the People's Right to Information and Development Implementing Society (PRISM), a non-government organisation, the special dance party titled "Monsoon Blast" was a novel attempt at contributing to the welfare of physically and sexually abused children.
Held in Aizwals' Berawtlang area, the party was aimed at helping physically-and sexually-abused children by raising funds for an under construction "First steps children's home".
Henry Zodingliana, one of the organisers, said: "We are trying our level best to participate in this fund-raising to help kids in our own way. We consider it one form of youth empowerment. We wish to help the government in its endeavours to help children."
Liansangzuala, another organiser, said: "It could be short from reaching the goal, but it is actually a step."
Henry Zodingliana, organizer, said: "The youth don't have any kind of a place to release their energy and we are using this (platform) to create awareness about such things that today exist in our society. We hope the message will go a long way and everyone would learn what we are suffering in society. We should remember children are an invaluable asset for society."
The organisers hoped their initiative will go a long way in curbing the evil of child abuse and creating an atmosphere where children can grow to their full potential.
People in Mizoram are known for their love for music. Many of them believe it could be an important tool for philanthropic purposes too.
