New Delhi, Aug 22 : Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora today flagged off a motorbike expedition to Daulat Beg Oldi in Jammu and Kashmir from Engineers Service Station, IndianOil's Retail Outlet here.
"This expedition titled 'Peaks Of Freedom' will be a tribute to the courage, patriotism and resilience of armed forces as the members of the expedition are scheduled to touch those Himalayan ranges where men in uniform have made some of the greatest sacrifices during Chinese War and Kargil conflict," Deora said.
On their way, they will touch the Himalayan ranges passing through Rohtang, Baralacha La, Nakee La Lachalung La, Tanglang La, Chang La, Khardung La reaching Daulat Beg Oldi near Karakoram Pass at an approximate height of 18,000 feet.
He was hopeful about the expedition members forging a closer bond with the people of those regions through which they pass, promoting national integrity and spreading the message of peace.
The members of the team which comprises journalists, photographers and other professionals have chosen a village located at the northernmost tip of Ladakh as their summit.
The 13 member team, which aimed to travel through difficult terrain, included four ladies.
Sponsored by IndianOil, the expedition has been organised by the Bikers for Integration and Conservation of Environment (BICE).
While wishing them all success in their thrilling venture, he complimented the nation's premier oil company, IndianOil, for sponsoring such an adventurous mission.
"Powered by IndianOil's world class engine oils and their own undaunted spirit, these young men will surpass all obstacles and stand up to any challenge that nature presents," he said.
The BICE endeavours to promote the spirit of adventure, exploration of nature and promotion of ecological consciousness.
