In the backdrop of the Indo-US nuclear deal becoming a bone of contention between the ruling UPA and the Left and the survival of the government being questioned, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that sometimes problem do arise in implementing some adopted policies, but such contradictions could be resolved to build a durable and stable policy framework.
New Delhi, Aug 21 : In the backdrop of the Indo-US nuclear deal becoming a bone of contention between the ruling UPA and the Left and the survival of the government being questioned, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that sometimes problem do arise in implementing some adopted policies, but such contradictions could be resolved to build a "durable and stable policy framework".
Addressing a visiting Japanese business delegation here in the national capital, Singh said: "We much recognize the complexities of a large and diverse nation like India and the needs and aspirations of different sections of our people. But we have shown over the past many years that we can resolve and manage effectively these pressures and contradictions and build a durable and stable policy framework."
"I assure you that we will address your concerns in the same spirit of transparency," he added.
The business delegation is accompanying Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who today arrived here on a three-day visit to the country.
Singh also stressed on the growing 'strategic convergence' between India and Japan and said that the core element of the bilateral global and strategic partnership is a "comprehensive economic engagement" between our two countries.
"In today's changed international system, the political, economic and strategic interests of India and Japan have never been so convergent as they are today," he said.
"For far too long the economic engagement between India and Japan has lagged behind our political ties. We now have the opportunity to make up for lost time," he added.
India and Japan signed a Special Economic Partnership Initiative during Singh's visit to Tokyo in December 2006, under which bilateral projects such as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the Rail Freight Corridors are being envisaged.
