The nation on Monday paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 63rd birth anniversary.
New Delhi, Aug 20 : The nation on Monday paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 63rd birth anniversary.
President Prathibha Patil, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, his cabinet colleagues and several Congress Party workers paid floral tribute to the late leader at his memorial - Veer Bhumi.
Sonia Gandhi was among the first to pay floral tribute. Her son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Vadra and her husband Robert Vadra also paid homage.
At another function, Sonia Gandhi presented motorized vehicles to 75 physically challenged persons, including 35 women.
"I would sincerely like to thank Sonia Gandhi. She has given me a vehicle through the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, which will help me move around and will change my life to achieve something," said Sonia Kumari, one of the women, who received a motorized vehicle.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during a poll campaign.
