Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to six-years of rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday, will be shifted from the Arthur Road Jail to the high security Yerawada Jail in Pune.
Mumbai, Aug 2 : Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to six-years of rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday, will be shifted from the Arthur Road Jail to the high security Yerawada Jail in Pune.
This decision was taken after Dutt withdrew his application demanding that he be kept in the Arthur Road Jail.
On the security front, an Arthur Road Jail officials clarified that all Maharashtra jails are under heavy security surveillance, so, any threat on Sanjay Dutt's life could be checked.
He admitted that, the Arthur Road Jail is overcrowded, having mostly under trials as inmates.
A convict sentenced to rigorous imprisonment has to cook, weave or do woodwork. These facilities are not available at the Arthur Road Jail.
Dutt was sentenced by a special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court for the illegal possession of arms on July 31.
Special Judge P D Kode also fined Rupees 25,000 on the star and rejected his probation plea. Dutt has already spent nearly 16 months, as an undertrial before being released on bail in 1996.
