Bus commuters in Maharashtra faced difficulty today after employees of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) went on one-day strike to register their protest against the State Governments decision to legalise private transport.
Mumbai, Aug 2 : Bus commuters in Maharashtra faced difficulty today after employees of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) went on one-day strike to register their protest against the State Government's decision to legalise private transport.
"We didn't know about the strike. I had to go to my village but there's no means of transport so I am just staying here," a local commuter, Ramachandra Pandare said.
Over 4,600 employees of the MSRTC started their strike call at midnight on Wednesday.
Bus operators said that the decision to legalise private taxis would go against the interest of the state-run cooperation.
"As the decision to give permit to private taxis was taken without consulting us, we have decided to go on a strike," Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) leader M B Shirsat said.
