The first day of the eighth round of India-Bangladesh Home Secretary level talks was held today in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
New Delhi, Aug 2 : The first day of the eighth round of India-Bangladesh Home Secretary level talks was held today in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
The two-day talks are part of the bilateral institutional mechanism set up in 1994 to resolve security and border management issues.
Bangladesh Home Secretary Mohammad Abdul Karim is leading his five-member team at the talks, while his Indian counterpart Madhukar Gupta is heading the Indian delegation.
"Talks were held today in a positive and constructive atmosphere," said a Home Ministry release.
Various aspects of security, border management and co-operation in police matters were discussed.
Both sides expressed commitment to further widen the co-operation between the two countries and felt that wherever there are issues of concern, these should be addressed by each other in positive and constructive spirit.
The two sides have expressed hope that the current round of talks would lead to further strengthening of mutual co-operation.
Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Director General and Border Security Force (BSF) Director General are also attending the talks.
Karim, later today, called on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil. The meeting lasted about half an hour.
The visiting delegation is likely to visit the National Police Academy at Hyderabad before it returns to Dhaka.
The seventh round of talks was held at Dhaka in August last year.
