Dr. Mohammad Haneef has said that Australian Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews was quoting him out of context to link him to a failed car bomb plot in Britain.
Bangalore, Aug 2 : Dr. Mohammad Haneef has said that Australian Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews was quoting him out of context to link him to a failed car bomb plot in Britain.
Andrews had released transcripts of an internet chat between Haneef and his brother Shuaib, which, he said, raised suspicions about Haneef's knowledge of the plot.
Haneef said the minister had not revealed the entire chat transcript and only parts to suit his claim.
"They have just given a few lines from the chat actually it is not a full chat. If you go through the full chat, you would understand it better," Haneef said. When asked if he would have acted if he knew of the conspiracy, Haneef replied: "These questions have been asked to me by the Australian police during my second record of interview. They know the answers best, its all been done properly."
Haneef's cousin, Imran Siddiqui said they would demand the Australian authorities to release the complete transcript of the chat before taking further action.
"We are pressing forward to ask the release of the complete second transcript so that we can further go ahead. And ask then for the secret evidence which is there with them," Siddiqui said.
Dr Haneef had been incarcerated since his arrest at Brisbane airport on July 2 over the foiled bomb attacks in the United Kingdom in late June.
The charges were later dropped, sparking a political furore in Australia, and Haneef flew home to Bangalore at the weekend to see his wife and new-born daughter.
Haneef has denied any knowledge of the plot and his arrest has ignited concerns about Australia's new counter-terrorism laws.
