Centre makes jute packing compulsory this year

With the year 2007-2008 declared as Jute Year, the Centre today made use of jute substances mandatory for packaging.

New Delhi, Aug 2 : With the year 2007-2008 declared as Jute Year, the Centre today made use of jute substances mandatory for packaging.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval for the 100 per cent compulsory packing for food grains and sugar in jute.

However, the Ministry of Textiles has been be empowered to authorize the user agencies to relax these provisions up to a maximum of further 20 percent for sugar and food grains, in case of any disruption in supplies.

Packs of sugar fortified with vitamins and 100 kgs packs have been also exempted.
