New Delhi, Aug 18 : The top Congress leaders met here on Saturday evening to hold discussions in the wake of the Left Front's continuing opposition to the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A K Antony, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and HRD Minister Arjun Singh, attended the meeting that took place at the official residence of Prime Minister.
The 90-minute meeting took stock of the political situation emerging with the Left's hardened position of the issue.
Meanwhile, Congress party today said that all safeguards have been already incorporated in the recently concluded 123-agreement with the US, and that 'national interest" would continue to be the party's "guiding pole star" on the matter.
