The Centre has made it clear that the Army could not be immediately withdrawn from internal security tasks and anti-terror duties.

New Delhi, Aug 17 : The Centre has made it clear that the Army could not be immediately withdrawn from internal security tasks and anti-terror duties.

In an action taken report presented to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, the Defence Ministry stated that it was not feasible to withdraw army from such tasks immediately, and additional battalions of Central Para-military forces would be raised for the purpose.

However, the Standing Committee tabled its report in the Parliament today where it has demanded 'fixed time schedule' for the withdrawal of the army from internal security task.
