But, piles surgery with Stapler is minimally invasive procedure for Haemorrhoids. And it is patient friendly, causes minimum pain, ensures fast recovery, needs only 24 hours hospitalisation and costs 30 per cent less than procedures used earlier, disclosed Pioneer Circle. Addressing a press conference on the occasion the visit of Senior Surgeons from Asia Pacific Countries(Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Pakistan) to Hyderabad to understand the Pioneer Circle Initiatives Dr. Y. Krishnamohan, Surgical Gastroenterologist of Yashoda Hospital who is one of the three Pioneer Circle members in city said globally, it is estimated that close to one-third of the population suffer from piles at some point in their lives. Piles is a life-style problem and is increasingly prevalent in the age group between 30 to 60 years of age. Dr. Rajeev Premnath, National Coordinator for the Pioneer's Circle from Bangalore also participated in the program.
During their meeting in city yesterday and today 60 doctors from Singapore, China, Pakistan, Vietnam and Korea were trained in this new technology.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mohamed Ismail from Kerala said Piles is a public health problem. Dr. Ismail is one of the progressive surgeons who founded the Pioneers' Circle and performed more than 30,000 basic and advanced laparoscopic surgeries and trained 150 surgeons.
Stapler surgery was invented by Dr Antonio Longo, a Surgeon in Italy in 1993. Since then on an average 10,000 procedures are done per annum in India and 2000 in twin cities. This is a proven procedure internationally. But, still there is not much awareness about this procedure. This procedure needs 24 hours hospitalization and one can do regular work immediately on discharge. The basic cost of the treatment exclusive of other expenses is just about Rs 9,000 to 10,000/-.
Piles occur basically due to sedentary life-styles. To prevent it from occurrence, one has to eat lot of fibre food (at least 20% of diet should be fibrous) and consume atleast three litres of water every day.
