New Delhi, Aug 17 : A special 'corner' for children has been set up inside the Parliament Library Building for inculcating reading habits among them and helping them to know about country's rich and vast resources.
The plan to set up a special section for children in the library where Parliamentarians often visit was announced on 2006 Children's Day by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
Chatterjee will be inaugurating this Children's Corner on Monday.
This corner will have a unique distinction because such an arrangement for children only exists in the National Diet Library of Japan.
Children between the age group of 8 to 17 years will be provided an opportunity to have access to a wide variety of books, magazines, electronic materials and other documents available in the Parliament Library.
The section comprises of about 2000 books, specially designed racks for display of magazines and newspapers, e-literature in the form of CDs/DVDs, and a multimedia centre equipped with computers having internet facility.
Children visiting the library would be encouraged to use computer as an educational tool and would have access to multimedia educational programmes and Internet free of cost.
Special emphasis will also be given to make the library more accessible to children of the marginalized sections of the society, who do not have access to a good and resourceful Library.
