Asserting that the government is determined to root out terrorism from Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf has said that armed forces are guarantors of peace, stability and integrity of the country.

Rawalpindi, Aug 15 : Asserting that the government is determined to root out terrorism from Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf has said that armed forces are guarantors of peace, stability and integrity of the country.

Speaking at a reception hosted for senior serving and retired officers of the three forces, Musharraf said the country is facing the menace of extremism and terrorism, and it was unfortunate that a handful of extremist groups were trying to force their will over the people.

"But this will not happen... the government is determined to root out extremism and terrorism from its soil at all costs and we will not let anyone use Pakistani soil for terrorism," he said.

Musharraf further said that the government is aware of the basic needs of the people, and is making efforts to transfer the benefits of Pakistan's economic development to the masses.

The reception was attended by Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Ehsanul Haq, Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmood Ahmed, Vice Chief of the Army, Lt.Gen. Ahsan Saleem Hayat, the Daily Times reported.
