One militant killed in Tripura

One militant suspected to belong to All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) was killed in an encounter with the paramilitary forces in Tripura on Tuesday.

Agartala, Aug 14: One militant suspected to belong to All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) was killed in an encounter with the paramilitary forces in Tripura on Tuesday.

The militant, identified as Mathaiya Debbarma, was killed near Sidhai police station during the wee hours when their group were hiding in a jhum (shifting farming) hut on a hillock.

When the security force personnel, who were on a special operation prior the Independence Day celebration, moved towards the hut the militants opened fire leading to crossfire.

After 20 minutes of gunfire the rest of the militants managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness and thick jungle.

One AK series rifle with few rounds of ammunitions was recovered from the encounter site.
