Rains continue to wreak havoc in Bihar

Fresh floods inundated Patna after heavy overnight showers on Tuesday.

Patna, Aug 14 : Fresh floods inundated Patna after heavy overnight showers on Tuesday.

Residents were caught unawares as they woke up to ankle-deep water in their bedrooms.

"The situation is pretty precarious here. It has rained so heavy that we see 4-5 feet deep waters on certain roads," said D.K. Gautam, a Patna resident.

"It has rained so much since last night that the city has been turning into a pond. We fear a Mumbai-like situation arising here," sad Shubhra, another local resident.

Fresh water pouring has dampened the residents' hopes and the state government's efforts to provide relief to thousands of affected people.

The rain-related death toll in the state has risen to 274.

About 2.5 million people have been displaced or stranded in floods over the past fortnight in 20 districts of Bihar. Darbhanga and Motihari are the worst affected districts.
