Pakistanis in India celebrated the 60th anniversary of their independence today.
New Delhi/Wagah Border (Punjab), Aug 14 : Pakistanis in India celebrated the 60th anniversary of their independence today.
India and Pakistan won freedom from the British at midnight of August 14 and 15, 1947.
Pakistan celebrates its anniversary on August 14, India marks it a day later.
Islamabad's envoy Shahid Mallick unfurled his country's national flag at the Pakistan High Commission here.
A colourful cultural programme was also put up by school children.
At the Wagah border, the gates were opened to the general public to witness the Independence Day celebrations.
"We accept your greeting. With the grace of god, we will wish you on your Independence Day tomorrow," said Brigadier Qasir Khan Tareen, Deputy Director-General, Pakistan Rangers.
Guards of both countries exchanged sweets and congratulated each other on the occasion.
