Security personnel on Tuesday gunned down two Hizbul Mujahidden (HM) militants in an encounter in the forest area of Mava, Bandipora in North Kashmir.

Srinagar, Aug 14 : Security personnel on Tuesday gunned down two Hizbul Mujahidden (HM) militants in an encounter in the forest area of Mava, Bandipora in North Kashmir.

The militants have been identified as Latief Ahmad Khan alias Saifullah and Mohammed Khan, both residents of Bandipora's Dardpora area.

Two AK 47 rifles, three Magazines, 90 rounds of ammunition and two pouches were recovered from the militants.

Meanwhile, police defused a grenade in Anantnag District's Dooru area.

A joint patrolling party of Dooru Police and army detected a hand grenade and some explosives wrapped in polythene on Ujjar-Hillar Road near Dooru, about 25 meters from Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The area was immediately evacuated and Bomb Disposal Squad of Police safely defused the grenade.
