Hyderabad, Aug.14 : A man in Hyderabad has prepared a giant tricolour on the eve of the India's 61st Independence Day celebrations. The national flag measures 211 meter in length and 2.5 meter in width and took four days to be prepared.
Prabhakar Reddy is a Congress party worker and believes that the flag will inspire the youth to recall the sacrifices made by country's freedom fighters during the British rule.
Reddy said: "Last year (2006), we had prepared a 111-meter long flag for the Independence Day. This time we decided to make it bigger than the last year since this is the 60th anniversary of country's Independence.
On completing the work on the flag, Reddy said: "This flag is a tribute to all the freedom fighters and leaders of India who have laid their lives for our nation whether it is freedom fighters like Mangal Pandey, Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi or late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi."
Gopal Das, the tailor, was equally excited while preparing such a giant-size national flag for the Independence Day.
Das said: "I did not bother about time, hours, hard work or cost. I felt it was my duty towards the nation and I did it."
The flag would be unfurled on the Independence Day (Aug.15) on Wednesday.
As the Indians rise to commemorate the 61st Independence Day on Wednesday, a number of people are stressing on the need to understand the contribution made by freedom fighters during the freedom struggle.
India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. And, this day is celebrated all over the country through flag-hoisting ceremonies.
The main celebration will take place in the national capital New Delhi where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the national flat from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort to a 21-gun salute and then address the nation.
