Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has welcomed President Pervez Musharrafs decision not to impose emergency in the country.

New York, Aug 10 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has welcomed President Pervez Musharraf's decision not to impose emergency in the country.

"It's a good decision," said the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairperson.

Benazir termed the media reports that the declaration of a state of emergency in Pakistan was imminent, as disturbing, adding that she was happy that the government decided to reverse it decision.

"Today's announcement that the government is not taking such a step is a positive development," the Dawn quoted her, as saying.

Reiterating that the PPP would continue its negotiations with the government on the restoration of democracy, she said, "We want holding of free and fair elections in the country."
