Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today emphasised the need for media coverage of positive initiatives taken by the government, saying the media has a duty to carry these up to the people.

New Delhi, Aug 1 : Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today emphasised the need for media coverage of positive initiatives taken by the government, saying the media has a duty to carry these up to the people.

In his address after launching the booklet 'Taking the UPA Report Card to the Masses,' Dasmunsi said the media had every right to attack the government whenever it feels that the government policies and programmes have any shortcomings at any level, but due credit needs to be given for its good efforts also.

"The effort of Lokmat group of newspapers in bringing out this book reflects a positive approach," he said, adding that delivery system at the micro level is very important and the government is making concerted efforts in this direction.

Dasmunsi further said he is planning to involve various other organisations around the country to carry out the UPA Report Card to the masses, and assess the impact of the UPA Government's initiatives on the life of public at large.

The Minister highlighted the positive developments in the economy over the last year in the areas of GDP, foodgrains, industrial growth, infrastructure development, forex reserves and lower fiscal deficit.
