Ajay Shankar takes over as DIPP secretary

Ajay Shankar, a Uttar Padesh cadre IAS officer of the 1973 batch, has taken over as the new Secretary for the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

New Delhi, August 1 : Ajay Shankar, a Uttar Padesh cadre IAS officer of the 1973 batch, has taken over as the new Secretary for the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Shankar takes charge from Ajay Dua.

Prior to his joining, Shankar had served in the Planning Commission and Ministry of Power, Government of India.

The DIPP was established in 1995 and was reconstituted in 2000 with the merger of the Department of Industrial Development.

The department is responsible for formulation and implementation of promotional and developmental measures for growth of the industrial sector, keeping in view the national priorities and socio-economic objectives. It is responsible for the overall industrial Policy of the country.
