2nd Asian Interventional Cardiovascular Therapeutics (AICT) brings Latest Cardiology Techniques to Indian Patients

New Delhi, Delhi, India

2nd Asian Interventional Cardiovascular Therapeutics (AICT) is a unique Asia Pacific forum for cardiologists around the World, co-organised by Max Heart & Vascular Institute, India, Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), US, & Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC), Singapore.

The 2nd Asian Interventional Cardiovascular Therapeutics (AICT), being organized from October 1-4, 2006 at New Delhi has introduced some of the cutting edge techniques & latest innovations in Interventional Cardiology. The 'Asian Interventional Cardiovascular Therapeutics (AICT)' is a unique forum representing the best of Interventional Cardiology (Angioplasty) in Asia Pacific through Cardiac Institutes of Excellence and National Interventional Cardiology Societies.

Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman, Max Heart & Vascular Institute, & Program Chair and Organiser, 2nd AICT, said, "Interventional cardiology procedures use non surgical methods to clear arteries blocked with fatty deposits and restore blood flow to the heart. Over the years, Interventional cardiology has become integral to latest innovations in medical research to treat heart problems."

Over 10 percent of all heart diseases among Indians are related to weak heart muscles. We have introduced special artificial pumps at 2nd AICT, which will prove life saving for patients with weak heart. The small heart support system would enable a feeble heart to pump blood and prepare the patient for an angioplasty. This will greatly benefit patients at high risk to undergo even an angioplasty. " Dr. Seth added.

Some of the foremost cardiologists & world-renowned researchers like Dr. Warren Sherman, Dr. Martyn Thomas, Dr. Carlo Di Mario, Dr. Richarder added Stack, Dr. Alexander Abizaid, Dr. Robert M. Siegel, Dr. Joseph D.Babb, Dr. Zahid Amin, and Dr. Hans Bonnier addressed the cardiologists at 2nd AICT. The '1st AICT Meet' was held in Singapore in August 2005 and was a grand success.

Dr. Barry Uretsky, Program Co-Chair, 2nd AICT & Immediate Past President, SCAI, said, "AICT represents an important cooperative effort in Interventional Cardiology between Asia Pacific and the West. The outcome of global knowledge forums like AICT is better cardiology services for the patients across the World. The society looks forward to continued engagement with AICT &India."

Dr. Ashok Seth further said, "Fascinating & new, innovative techniques like replacement of heart valve without open heart surgery were demonstrated during 2nd AICT. Stem cell therapy was discussed by the world's foremost cardiologists. Closure of rare holes in the heart by non surgical methodologies was shown. The advancements in technology would revolutionize the treatment of heart problems in future especially in elderly patients who are at higher risk of surgery."

The forum brought together over 1000 leading cardiologists from all around the world for live case demonstrations, lectures from International Leaders / Researchers, SCAI and APSIC monitored training modules, Simulation Workshops and Fellowship Programmes. For the first time in India, complex angioplasty cases and fascinating new technologies were transmitted live via satellite from several leading heart centers in Asia Pacific, Europe & US including Max Heart & Vascular Institute, Saket, New Delhi.
