Keeping a food journal will help you lose weight fast, says a new study. Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington says their No. 1 piece of advice to those who strive to lose weight to document everything they eat in a journal so that they can get a count of their daily calorie intake. The findings of the study were published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The advice is not new as it has been tried and tested by a lot of people. They often get positive results compared to other weight loss strategies. The new study also shows that by not skipping meals and eating out less often will help a lot.

The study which concentrated on self-monitoring techniques, tracked 123 overweight or obese post-menopausal women showed that simple changes in behavior can make a whole lot of difference. They monitored the results for a year. The results are encouraging. Those who kept journals lost six pounds more than those who didn't.
