Two doner kebabs a week could cause heart attack within 10 years

Think twice before having a doner kebab next time, for a new study has revealed that these greasy takeaway meals are so full of fat, eating just two a week could kill you with a heart attack in just ten years.

London, May 15 : Think twice before having a doner kebab next time, for a new study has revealed that these greasy takeaway meals are so full of fat, eating just two a week could kill you with a heart attack in just ten years.

Scientists found that a single doner kebab has the equivalent of a wine glass of cooking oil in it.

Food scientists from Hampshire County Council tested the contents of popular takeaways, including Chinese, Indian, pizzas, kebabs and fish and chips.

They said that anyone who scoffed two doner kebabs a week was massively increasing the risk of a heart attack.

Denise Thomas, head of nutrition at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, that reviewed the results of the study, said a doner kebab had 111g of fat - twice the maximum daily allowance.

"If this kebab weighs 400g, the fat content is a quarter of the meal. Most of that fat is saturated so it will raise your cholesterol and thicken your arteries," The Sun quoted her, as saying.

"If you eat that meal twice a week on top of your ordinary diet it's a timebomb of heart disease. If you eat pie and chips and fried breakfasts as well, you're heading to a heart attack within ten years," she added.

Experts tested 150 takeaways and found that the best takeaway food for fat content was Chinese char sui pork and best for salt was cod and chips.
