On August 6, 2009, Twitter and possibly other social networking websites such as Facebook, LiveJournal, Blogger and YouTube are reportedly suffering from a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Twitter had service outages for sometime.

On 17 May 2012, Twitter announced that they are planning a "Do Not Track" option that will let users opt out of being tracked through the service.

In September 2012, Twitter's CEO Dick Costolo announced that users will be able to download their entire archive of tweets by the end of 2012. He was speaking at a keynote conversation at the Online News Association conference in San Francisco.

Account Suspensions

On 19 December 2012, Twitter briefly suspended the account of international hactivist collective 'Anonymous'. The suspension was confirmed by a backup of the suspended account @YANBackUp. The account was reinstated after a support ticket was filed.
