William E. Ward

William E. Ward is a three-star lieutenant general in the United States Army.

He was once a four-star general and served as Commander at the U.S. Africa Command from October 1, 2007 to March 8, 2011.


On November 13, 2012 Gen. William Ward was demoted and ordered to repay $82,000 for his extravagant trips and other unauthorized expenses. U.S. Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta has passed the orders demoting him and William Ward will retired as a three-star liteutenant general. The demotion will reduce Ward's pension pay by $30,000 a year.
