Professional Biography

Tom Coburn first got elected to the Senate in 2004 defeating Democrat Brad Carson with 53 percent of the vote. During his election campaign, he pledged to serve no more than two terms if he won. In 2005, Coburn tried to strip $452 million for two Alaska bridges - one known as the \"Bridge to Nowhere,\" which was to link a small Alaskan town with its airport on a nearby island. The Senate ended up approving money for the bridges.
