Bob Hewitt

Bob Hewitt is a former Grand Slam doubles tennis champion. He was born in Australia.

Hewitt won nine Grand Slam doubles and six Grand Slam mixed doubles titles in the 1960s and 1970s.

Rape and Sexual Assault

Bob Hewitt was alleged to have assaulted three under-age girls during his time coaching children in South Africa in the 1980s and 1990s. On 18 May 2015, a South African court found him guilty of two counts of rape and a charge of sexual assault of minors and has sentenced Bob Hewitt to six years in prison. Before sentencing, Hewitt has urged the court to consider his poor health and said he had received anonymous threats warning of assault if he was put in prison.

Bob Hewitt was on bail extended till May 19, 2015 while his legal team will appeal the sentence.


Bob Hewitt suffered a stroke in 2010. He also suffered with a heart attack in 2011.
