India Mobile Number Portability

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal announced on 13 February 2012 that the Government will implement the nationwide Mobile Number Portability (MNP) by February 2013. The nationwide mobile number portability will allow users to retain their mobile numbers even if they move from one state to another. India has 22 telecom circles.

The Department of Telecom has finalized broad agenda for December 2012 and January and February 2013. The department will ensure the timely implementation of the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012.

As of December 2012, users are allowed to retain the same number as long as they switch to a different operation within his/her circle.
