Costa Concordia


Costa Concordia is a cruise ship operated by Costa Crociere. It was built by the Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente yards in Italy. Costa Concordia is the first of the Concordia class cruise ships.

Costa Concordia struck a rock in the Tyrrhenian Sea just off the shore of Isola del Giglio on January 13, 2012. The disaster happened near the near the western coast of Italy. This tore a 160-foot-long (49 m) gash in her hull. With water flooding in and listing, the ship drifted back to Giglio Island, where she grounded, lying on her side in shallow water.

3,229 passengers were traveling in the ship when the disaster happened. All of the passengers except 32 and 1,023 crew were saved.
