Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy

Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is a former Member of Parliament representing the Kadapa constituency in Andhra Pradesh. He is the son of former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Personal Biography

Jagan Mohan Reddy was born on December 21, 1972 at Pulivendula village in Kadapa district. He is the son of former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and former Pulivendula MLA Y S Vijayamma.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is also the nephew of Congress leader and Agriculture Minister YS Vivekananda Reddy. He is also related to Health minister D L Ravindranath Reddy.

Jagan did his schooling in Pulivendula. He received a Masters in Business Administration in Hyderabad.

Professional Biography

Jagan Mohan Reddy started his political career in 2004. He campaigned for the Congress party in the 2004 Assembly elections. He later became a Member of Parliament representing the Kadapa district in 2009. His relations with the Congress party deteriorated after the demise of his father Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter accident.

Odarpu Yatra

Jagan took up 'Odarpu Yatra' to console the families of people who died after hearing the shocking news of YSR's death. This did not go well with the Congress party high command and he was repeatedly asked to avoid it.

Resignation from Congress

He resigned to the Congress party membership and as a MP on November 29, 2010. With speculations that he will float a party of his own, Jagan officially announced on December 7, 2010 that his new party will be formed and will contest in the by-elections of Pulivendula and the Kadapa MP seat.

Timeline

May 28, 2012: Nampalli Special Court sends Jagan to a 14-day judicial remand till June 11, 2012. He was lodged at the Chanchalguda jail.

May 27, 2012: Jagan was arrested by the CBI in connection to the disproportionate assets case.

July 8, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy along with his family members pay homage to former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya. He later inaugurates the first plenary session of the YSR Congress Party.

June 5, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy leaves on a Jerusalem trip along with his family members.

May 24, 2011: Jagan resumes Odarpu Yatra in Vijayanagaram district. He will tour in the district for the next 6 days consoling families of 17 who lost their lives after demise of YSR.

May 13, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy wins the Kadapa parliamentary byelection with a record majority defeating his nearest rival and Congress candidate D L Ravindranath Reddy by over 5,21,000 votes.

May 8, 2011: Polling for the Kadapa and Pulivendula byelection. Jagan contests for the Kadapa parliamentary seat, while his mother Vijayamma contests for the Pulivendula assembly seat.

April 24, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy condoles the demise of Sathya Sai Baba.

March 28, 2011: Jagan resumes his Odarpu Yatra in Vijayanagaram.

March 12, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy unveils YSR Congress Party's flag at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya.

March 11, 2011: Jagan announces the name of his party - "YSR Congress Party".

February 18, 2011: YS Jaganmohan Reddy begins seven-day fast demanding release of funds for the tuition fees reimbursement scheme by the Andhra Government.

February 12, 2011: Jagan Mohan reaches Pulivendula in the morning. He will attend the wedding of Y S Avinash Reddy.

February 11, 2011: Jagan Mohan leaves to Hyderabad from Polavaram.

February 7, 2011: Jagan begins his 3-day 'Harita Yatra' from Ravulapalem to Polavaram.

February 3, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy confirms YSR's name to his party.

January 31, 2011: Vivekananda Reddy backs Jagan Mohan Reddy, says 'Neither Jagan involved in any murder case nor has faction history'.

January 28, 2011: Jagan to go a 3 day 'Pada Yatra' for Polavaram project.

January 6, 2011: Jagan Mohan Reddy's Odarpu Yatra on Day 4 in Visakhapatnam.

January 4, 2011: Jagan Mohan resumes his Odarpu Yatra on Day 2 from K Kotapadu in Visakhapatnam.

January 3, 2011: Jagan resumes his Odarpu Yatra in Visakhapatnam. He will tour in the district for the next 10 days. Jagan announces that he will go on a day hunger strike in New Delhi.

December 26, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy writes a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his appointment to explain him the problems faced by the farmers in the state.

December 25, 2010: Jagan meets Vivekananda Reddy at CV Subba Reddy's residence for Christmas celebrations in Pulivendula.

December 23, 2010: Jagan concludes his 48-hour deeksha. Blames Congress and TDP President Chandrababu Naidu for the farmers problems in the state.

December 22, 2010: Jagan's 48-hour hunger strike demanding better compensation package to rain-hit farmers enters second day. MP and actress Jayaprada calls him to offer her solidarity to Jagan's deeksha.

December 21, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy is on a 48 hour hunger strike at Seetammapadalu in Vijayawada. He is demanding a better compensation package to the rain-hit farmers in the state.

December 20, 2010: Jagan addresses people and his supporters at Jammulamadugu. Claims his father as the reason for Congress' success at national level.

December 19, 2010: Jagan Mohan tours in Atluru. Criticizes Government for neglecting Pipeline project at Bramhasagar Project in Badwelu mandal.

December 18, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy tours in Kadapa today.

December 17, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy unveils YSR's statue in Kadapa. Begins his four day tour in the district. He addresses his supporters at the YSR Hall in Pulivendula.

December 16, 2010: Jagan tours in Anantapur. This is the first time that Jagan is visiting Anantapur after resigning from Congress. As per the media sources, Jagan's assets are likely under the Income tax authorities scanner.

December 15, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy tours in East Godavari. He warns the Government that he will go on a 48-hour hunger strike if the Government doesn't solve the problems for farmers in the state. Senior Congress Leader Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao resigns from Congress party to support Jagan Mohan Reddy. Jagan thanks the Jakkampudi couple at Kadiam.

December 14, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy reaches Hyderabad after finishing his tour in Guntur and Krishna districts. He receives warm welcome at his residence from his supporters.

December 13, 2010: Jagan tours extensively in Krishna district consoling the farmers. Meets Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani.

December 12, 2010: Jagan continues consoling farmers in Krishna district. Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani announces his intention to join Jagan's camp.

December 11, 2010: Jagan Mohan reaches Guntur. He resumes his tour on the second day from Cherukupalli.

December 9, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy consoles the rain-hit farmers in the state. He tours Guntur and Krishna districts.

December 8, 2010: Jagan speaks to the people at Pulivendula. He asks people to stand by him in the upcoming by-elections.

December 7, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy reaches Pulivendula from Chennai. He announces to his supporters that his new party will be formed in the next 45 days. Meets local leaders and supporters. Health Minister D L Ravindranath Reddy says he is ready to take on Jagan in Pulivendula by-election. Konda Surekha says YSR's schemes are inspiration to Jagan's party.

December 5, 2010: Jagan leaves to Chennai on a personal work. Sources say it is for a health checkup in a hospital. BJP Senior leader Venkaiah Naidu says Jagan's resignation to Congress is a loss to the Congress party.

December 2, 2010: Reaches Hyderabad from Idupulapaya. Meets his uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy at his residence. Meets MLAs Pilli Subashchandra Bose, Kamalamma, Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar and Mekapati Chandrasekhara Reddy. Speaks to the resigned Tourism Minister Vatti Vasanth Reddy over telephone.

December 1, 2010: Alleges that Sonia Gandhi is resorting to split and divide tactics to create a split in the YS family.

November 30, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy along with his mother Vijayamma and sister Sharmila paid their respects to his father at Idulupaya estate in Kadapa. He later met his uncle YS Vivekananada Reddy. The meeting lasts just 5 minutes. Jagan's supporters say that Jagan will launch his new party in a huge public meeting on December 1.

November 29, 2010: Jagan Mohan Reddy has resigned as the Kadapa Member of Parliament. He released a 5-page open letter to Party President Sonia Gandhi explaining the circumstances under which he resigned as MP. His mother, Vijayamma also resigned as the MLA from Pulivendula Assembly seat. Jagan may contest from Pulivendula assembly seat, while his mother Vijayamma or Sharmila might contest for the Kadapa MP seat.
