Threatening employees at a Toll Plaza

Vitthalbhai Radadiya has been caught on camera, brandishing a rifle and threatening employees at a toll plaza in Karjan village of Vadorara on 11 October 2012. The MP was asked to show his original identity card when the driver of the vehicle in which the MP was travelling showed him a copy of the card. The MP was on way to Surat when the incident happened. The incident attracted widespread outrage and even the Congress Party has said that the images were disturbing.

Speaking to a media channel the next day, Vitthalbhai Radadiya justified his action and refused to apologize. "I am an MP, I deserve respect," he said reportedly. "When I got down I was called a bogus MP. If a person calls me a bogus MP, they say my card is false, what do I do?" He claimed that about 15 people surrounded his car and so he had to pull out the gun for self defence. In the images captured by the CC camera, no other person were seen near to him for a long time. The passers by were even scared to approach him and sped away without paying toll on seeing his gun.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said that the Congress party will give everyone an opportunity to explain and Radadiya will be give a chance to explain his actions. The Congress central leadership also asked the Gujarat state Congress for an explanation.

FIR filed

The Vadodara rural police filed an FIR against Vitthal Radadia on 13 October 2012 on the basis of the CCTV footage. A complaint was filed by the manager of a private company who are responsible for collecting toll tax.
