As Maharashtra Chief Minister

Vilasrao Deshmukh served as the Maharashtra Chief Minister twice. He was the 23rd Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He submitted his resignation taking moral responsibility in the wake of terrorist attack in Mumbai. He is succeded by Ashok Chavan.

On Congress in Maharashtra

In May 09, Deshmukh said Congress is to contest alone in the 2009 Maharashtra Assembly elections after looking at the triumphed with the party success in the Lok Sabha elections. He re-iterated that Congress should go alone in June 09.
