Vijay Bahuguna


Vijay Bahuguna is the Chief Minister of the state of Uttarakhand in India. He is the former Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha representing Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency. He is a politician of the Indian National Congress.

Vijay Bahuguna is the son of late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, who was a freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Vijay was born on February 28, 1947 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He holds degrees in B.A and LL.B from the Allahabad University.

Vijay Bahuguna is a former High Court judge. He is the cousin of Chief Minister BC Khanduri.

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand

Vijay Bahuguan was sworn as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on March 13, 2012. The Congress refused to respond to Union Minister Harish Rawat's threat to resign. Rawat reportedly wanted to be the Chief Minister and sent his resignation from the Union government as Minister of State for Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs.

His son Saket Bahuguna lost the Tehri constituency by-election to his rival and BJP candidate Maharani Mala Rajalaxmi Shah, daughter-in-law of erstwhile Raja of Tehri who had represented the seat for a record eight times. The result was announced on 13 Oct 2012.
