About V. Gopalswamy (Vaiko)

Vaiko is a Senior Politician from Tamil Nadu. He is the head and the founder of political party Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Vaiko lost to Manicka Tagore (Congress) by 15764 votes after standing from the Virudhunagar Parliamentary Constituency in the 2009 Indian Parliamentary Elections.

Remarks supporing LTTE

In March 09, he lead an anti-Sri Lanka rally in Coimbatore against the Sri Lankan Armys offensive on ethnic Tamils in that island-nation.

In April 09, an FIR is registered for making pro-LTTE speech when he warned of serious consequence to Sri Lankan offensive against LTTE and of a possible bloodbath in Tamil Nadu if the Prabhakaran is harmed. Vaiko responded by saying not afraid of being arrested.

In April 2010, he went on a hunger strike in Chennai to condemn the insensitive deportation of Parvathi, the mother of slain LTTE leader Prabakaran.

In June 2010, he was taken into preventive custody, when they attempted to stage demonstrations at various places here to protest against the visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to India.
